The Old Grey Eye’s Store

I’m a sucker for an old building with character!

Despite the building’s initial poor condition, hidden architectural details of this c.1909 western style, flat front building drew me to the property. The walls and ceilings retained their solid heart pine bead board while the buildings history were compelling. I felt there was something worth saving.

Six months under construction and the once dilapidated space is now a functional commercial asset in a very high use zoning district.

Claude’s Cottage

A circa 1850 village house in Sperryville’s Historic District, Claude’s Cottage was in need of some love. Well, lots of love. This 1300 square foot, 2 bed / 2 bath will eventually be a lovingly restored residential rental.

Claude’s Cottage is my latest project and as of January 20205, under construction.

Happy Camper Equipment Co.

Happy Camper Equipment Co. launched in 2017 as an outdoorsy boutique offering a range of outdoor necessities, fun gifts and a selection of outdoor brands and related apparel such as Topo Designs, Woolrich, Fairbault to name a few.

With Sperryville’s stones throw to Shenandoah National Park and proximity to DC, I saw an opportunity to answer a need while doing so in style. The shop introduced people to new brands in several categories while showing off my favorite town in Virginia.

I purchased the building, completely overhauled the interior and exterior, created the branding and offered it all to the world with a fairly sophisticated website backed up by heavy inventory management.

The interiors were entirely custom and very 'on trend’ with plywood paneling throughout, custom lighting and fixturing and brand reinforcement at every turn. We even had our own squirrely mascot with branded apparel you may have seen around town!

Today the building retains the iconic hand painted “Welcome to Sperryville” mural, greeting visitors at the western entrance to Main Street.

Historic Downtown Barndominium

This project started with a Special Permit from Rappahannock County to turn a c.1900 timber frame barn that historically housed livestock & hay into a chic downtown barndominium fit for a design savvy bachelor or small family.

Taking on 100% of the design and construction work myself, I installed hydronic radiant heat floors, custom windows & doors, glass railings, architectural Sonos sound system, custom kitchen & cabinetry, handmade lighting and even a gratuitously large shower.

The volumes were preserved and structural elements enhanced to allow light to dance within the space throughout the day.

3 Bears: Baby Bear

Quite frankly, the ‘before’ pictures are terrifying. After removing termite, carpenter and moisture rot damage, there was only one wall and floor remaining. The entire structure was rebuilt, custom windows, doors, flooring and lighting were integrated and the building in now the loving home of Moonshine Jewelers. Check them out!
