How can you be interested in anything and not be interested in everything?

I’ve had the good fortune to experience careers across a spectrum of real estate, architecture and design related industries. Below are some of my proficiencies that I bring to bear in every project, transaction and investment.

Real Estate Investing

I not only help my clients with real estate, I’m an investor / owner too. Think of it as putting your money where you mouth is… I’ve owned properties from Alabama to Virginia, residential to commercial.

I’ve negotiated commercial leases for many of my businesses and as a property owner, negotiated with tenants. Having been on the other end of terrible landlords, I have found the best outcomes are where everyone grows together.

  • Negotiating Purchases & Sales - Residential & Commercial

  • Simple ProFormas to Complex Projections, CAP rates, NPVs & Cash Flows

  • Marketing of residential & commercial properties for lease

Construction & Restoration

One of my critical success factors has been the ability to build, restore and maintain properties myself. Controlling costs while having the flexibility to make design decisions quickly has not only benefited my bottom line but also grown my foundational knowledge. Every project is different and I’ve grown from each.

  • New Construction to Historical Restorations

  • Zoning Challenges to Ordinance Adherence

  • Historical Tax Credit Programs to Floodplain Requirements

Community

As an Eagle Scout, community service and involvement was instilled at a young age. Being a part of something positive, in your own back yard, has a knock-on effect to investing locally.

I’ve sat as a volunteer on several non-profit boards in Rappahannock County and have been involved in local programming creating events such as SperryFest, advocating for a Historic District expansion and even worked with VDoT on important pedestrian safety issues.

  • Board member, Businesses of Rappahannock

  • Founding member, Sperryville Community Alliance

  • Widely known for the “Welcome to Sperryville” mural.

  • Founding organizer, SperryFest Duck Race & Festival

Entrepreneurship

I’ve owned numerous businesses: from a glitzy design shop in Cady’s Alley - Georgetown, DC to a humble, well branded & curated outdoorsy store in Sperryville VA. I’ve worn every hat that a small business owner can…. and thoroughly enjoyed the process.

  • Furniture Design to Craftsmanship

  • Branding to Graphic Design

  • Web Design (yes, I even made this site too!)

  • Online to Brick & Mortar Selling

  • Global Shipping to Export & Import

Interiors & Architecture

From clients selection of furniture to full on interior design packages and FFE schedules in both residential and commercial projects.

I’ve worked with numerous trade professionals throughout the DC region and for a number of years, very closely with Hugh Newell Jacobsen & Simon Jacobsen’s firm, Jacobsen Architecture.

Knowledge of textiles, finishes, materials, production lead times and logistics.
Lighting terminology & manufacture.

Product Design & Fabrication

Working with storied architecture firms such a Hugh Newell Jacobsen / Jacobsen Architecture requires a sophisticated skill set. So it spoke volumes when they asked me to produce a line of furniture positioned for public consumption based on their style and design ethos. The collaboration went so well we even produced pieces for Jacobsen’s bespoke homes for private clients around the world.

In the consumer packaged goods and apparel realm, I designed branded tees and accessories for Happy Camper Equipment Co in Sperryville.

  • Furniture design to Lighting design

  • Consumer Packaged Goods to Softgoods & Apparel

  • Upholstery methodologies to textile limitations
